Outer Banks Information from Corolla to Cape Hatteras

The northernmost area is called Corolla. It's about 20 miles north of the bridge that brings you onto the Outer Banks. Corolla has been the hot vacation spot for the last few years, and represents the top of our market. We anticipate that this area will continue to be the hot rental destination. Corolla and Duck, the next community south, are collectively called the northern beaches. Homes in these areas are designated either "oceanside" or "soundside," depending on whether they are east or west of NC 12, which is the only north-south route on this part of The Outer Banks. Generally, renters like to be oceanside, so they don't have to cross the road, but soundside has its high points, too.

The Northern Beaches are comprised of residential subdivisions. Each subdivision is unique which provides us with an opportunity to find that perfect match!

The Town Beaches comprise Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head, in that order. Here we have two north-south routes. NC 12 in this area is Virginia Dare Trail, commonly called the beach road. It is paralleled by US 158, which is the 5-lane highway, commonly called the bypass. The area between these two roads is called "between the highways”. West of the bypass you find homes more conducive to year round or second home living. Westside property would provide limited rental income. You will hear us locate property in these areas by mile markers. An example would be … “at the 7MP” (means that it's seven miles south of the Wright Memorial bridge).

The Southern Beaches comprise of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras These beaches are often described as the “Hatteras National Seashore”. Much of the area is National Park Land and Fish and Wildlife Property. Those who love this area say they like the more remote feeling provided by the abundance of natural land. This is also considered windsurfer’s and fishermen’s heaven.

Roanoke Island is known for its historic part in the birth of the US. The Lost Colony was established here in 1587. Our County Seat, Manteo, is located on this island and you find yourself in a waterfront town of historic proportions. Although Roanoke Island is highly comprised of local residents the area is experiencing tremendous growth providing second home developments, waterfront condos, and the marina lifestyle.

Dare County mainland is less known. We anticipate growth due to its prime locale; situated between Roanoke Island and Raleigh. Manns Harbor is just across the bridge from Manteo but the town of Columbia is located on the Scuppernong River just 45 minutes from The Outer Banks and has recently sparked interest in investors.
